Dinner partyA Poem by Poeticpiersstory poemDinner Party. The table’s set, the candles glow Fleeting reflections come and go. From gleaming glass and silverware Fine china adding to the show. The guests we entertain tonight can satisfy their appetite With good old fashioned simple fare. All home cooked prepared with care. Accompanied by a glass or two Of sparkling wine; The mushroom soup is piping hot But the prawn cocktails are not Then roast beef moist and succulent With vegetables designed to tempt Rich gravy served with You could not wish for finer food. The meal is over time to chat exchanging views on this and that. Enjoy each others company Just relaxing comfortably. But like all things the evening ends We say farewell to our good friends. The evening went successfully. Thanks mainly to the company. The food was good and adequate. I know our friends appreciate. A home cooked meal that suits their taste. little was left to go to waste. Much to our little dog’s dismay. Expecting scraps to come his way. His disappointment obvious. but he’s too wise to make a fuss. He’s certain that I have held back sufficient meat to make a snack. And he is right I always do. He regards it as his rightful due. I take him for his evening walk. My wife and I find time to talk. Although it’s nearly time for bed About the coming year ahead. I make a hot and milky drink that will go down as smooth as silk. A perfect ending to the day. Before retiring from the fray.
