Winter soon fades from memory.

Winter soon fades from memory.

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

just as it comes

"

Winter soon fades from memory.

In winter time the high moors show.

A vast unbroken field of snow

The hardy sheep still wander free.

The tracks they leave like graffiti

Sprayed by careless vandals who

Take no pride in what they do.

The moorland sheep know where to go

to find some shelter from the snow.

They seem to know instinctively

Where the ground remains snow free

The oldest wisest ewe will lead

the flock to where they can rest and feed.

A hardy independent breed

The farmers know they sometimes need

A little extra food supplied

Chopped swede and hay they leave beside

The tracks the sheep use frequently

So they can find it easily.

Spring will return the snow will go.

The high moors will begin to show

The young grass growing fresh and clean

In ever changing shades of green.

The moorland sheep still wander free.

Winter soon fades from memory.

My Grandfather was a Sheperd , and I had flashes of what he may have seen through his eyes as he moved his flock through the mountain valleys . Love the 'Nature' of this piece
