Dulce et decorum.

 

Pindaric ode format

 

Your country calls on you to fight.

To risk your life in freedoms cause.

They can persuade you they are right.

Propagandising without pause

Make promises they cannot keep

Although they know full well they lie.
Young men are prone to act like sheep

Follow the leader don’t ask why.

 

Though when they face reality

Of sudden death by shot or shell

When they must face the enemy.

They have a different tale to tell.

But only if they can survive

 and not be blown to pieces by.

Some improvised high explosive

Device.Which they have failed to see.

 

There are no winners in a war.

Although you may claim victory

When you tot up the final score

Accurately and honestly.

You realise you were a fool

 To swallow such outrageous lies.

That government’s use as a tool.

To recruit young men to fight and die.

There is only one real reason to fight and die in war and that reason is if death is the only other way for your friends to live. Then the noun War is justified but never for any other reason. Governments stop being for the people when they forget this and continue to allow people to die for their unjust causes. Well said.
