Stiff upper lips.

Stiff upper lips.

A Poem by Poeticpiers
"

satirical sonnet

"

Stiff upper lips.

Hysterical Hilarity

Spreads through the crowd contagiously.

It stems the tears that otherwise

Would flow freely from reddened eyes.

Because it isn’t done you know

To let your raw emotions show.

Unless at home in privacy

But not in public definitely.

Because we’re Englishmen you see

And we react to tragedy

As we have done traditionally.

Apparently impassively.

Although we feel it deep inside.

We will not let it show outside.

"To carry on in quiet desperation is the English way."...Roger Waters /// I really enjoyed this look at the most civilized of men; the Englishman. The motto of my state, North Carolina. taken from Cicero's essay on friendship: Esse Quam Videri..."To Be Rather Than To Seem" We tend to let our feelings show regardless for good or ill.
