Enemy

Enemy

Enemy

I owe no man, no man owes me
Exactly as it ought to be.
I pay hard cash for what I buy.
There is a simple reason why.

I will not pay expensively
 for things I buy impulsively.
I do not need the latest style
I find that if I wait a while.

That fashion change and prices fall
I can resist the siren call.
Of T.V. adverts telling me
that I can have all that I see.

By spending on my credit card,
but I am always on my guard.
I have no debts that worry me
at nights I can sleep peacefully.

Your credit cards an enemy
although it claims to be friendly
I know it is convenient
It’s too easy to get overspent,

Wise words! Well written, I agree 100 percent! Had to chuckle over
"I can resist the siren call".....Ah yes, and what a temptress indeed
is that "Siren". LOL

Well done poet!

This was refreshing to read. I also espouse this philosophy. The advertisers prey on on those who think they need material things to improve the lives somehow. Like they are trying to fill up an empty place inside them with things.

This reminds me quite humorously of what my father always told me: "If you can't pay cash for it, you can't afford it". Great lesson there and great lesson here with this poem.

Very enjoyable

So true....
I was brought up not to live beyond my means....but, with temptation on every billboard, television screen and radio....
Excellently written.

Bravo
