Solace

A Poem by Poeticpiers

Solace

The surging tides that ebb and flow
I watch them come I watch them go.

The rolling waters of the sea,
have freedom now denied to me.
But she still calls me constantly.

My only mistress was the sea
‘til I asked you to marry me.
The only way you would agree
I must say farewell to the sea.

I turned my back upon the sea
settled ashore reluctantly.
My love for you has anchored me.
You feared it understandably
but I still miss her terribly.

I watch the boats go out to sea
where in my heart I long to be.
I’ve done all that you asked of me
.Its only when we disagree
That I come here unhappily
to seek the solace of the sea.

I enjoyed this piece.

This is something that happens far to often, one great love is given up for another. The saddest part is that there was no real choice. The price for one love was the loss of another. The choice would have been a hard one to make either way.

Your words show your love for your wife and an almost unbearable longing for the sea. It also shows a fettering, of being anchored, tied down, harnessed, as sense of lost self.

I wonder how many of the 'disagreements' are caused by you - so you can 'escape' for your seaside fix.

(My only mistress was the sea
'til I asked you to marry me.
The only way you would agree
I must say farewell to the sea.)

the last line here gave me a little trouble reading the rythym seemed a little off ... may be worth checking it out.

Overall a good poem, giving a great insight to a man's love - for both the women in his life.

A beautiful piece. I love the rhyming and flow. You paint a wonderful picture of love and sacrifice. Thanks for sharing.
