Wasteland

Wasteland

Farm lands destroyed and desolate.
The only seeded crops are mines
which are still primed to detonate.
The land they fought for useless now
It can’t be farmed by either side
for fear of what may lie below.
Dispossessed by tides of war
the farmers fled as refugees
There’s nothing left worth staying for.
Perhaps in time: Improbably
the hidden mines will all be cleared.
And then the farmers will be free
To cultivate their land again.
to feed their wives and families
Safe from the threat of warlike men,
who seek to slay their enemies.
 Without regard for damage done
to farms and gardens they destroy.
Pay no respect to anyone
the only tool they know the gun..

Wow! That is a really meaningful poem! I love farmland and feel that it is the people in rural settings who suffer the most in war usually. I wouldn't change anything!

I am always intersted in reading other peoples descriptions of what they think of as a wasteland. It is very heart breaking and very true. War is a topic I have always found intimidating, and I have a huge level of respect for anyone who is willing to tackle it. (:
