15-501

A Poem by Lauren

When we were together

the pines were falling from their peak,

stunningly green with brown needles

like the shades in your eyes.

Laughter, almost insulting,

filled the small spaces between us

and I silently begged

the digital clock on your dashboard,

gradually losing my argument with every new hour.

I wish I could go back to that time, but

it is in vain that I would draw you near

and remind myself of the way you never felt.
