The Masks We All Wear

The Masks We All Wear

A Poem by Poetic Dillon
"

Symbolism of the way we feel on the inside

"
A man sits, a mask on his face. The mask is in several pieces, marked with words that would lead you to believe that it represented happiness. He removes the piece by his chin, it reads "Enthusiasm". In thick black lettering, the word "Fear" is written across his chin. He rubs at it, but it will not smudge. He places his hands on the piece by his mouth, it reads "Free Speech". He gently pulls it off, revealing the word "Judgement", once again, in thick black lettering. He moves his hand to his left cheek, it reads "Love". That piece falls to the ground, "Heartbreak" is again underneath, in thick black letters. He moves to his right cheek. "Family". He rips it off and the word "Lonesomeness" is found, again, in thick black letters. He begins to remove the final piece of the mask. "Joy" was what it once read. Now, on his forehead, in thick black letters, is only "Sadness".
