WHAT PRICE LOVE?

To a starving man’s play
The food tastes just as good
Whether the serving tray
Be made of gold or wood
And so with love, to a famished soul
The banquet is within the serving bowl

And to a sweet dream’s sight
Is a rich illumination’s affair
Beauteous, impressed flight
Which candle’s a darker air
And so with love, it’s cheapened worth
Is so much richer when brought to earth

Avarice is a saddened greed
This strive to grasping status
What gains us, this succeed
This base urge to elevate us
And so with love, a treasure’s sacrifice
Is freely gained at dear passion’s price

What price is this adventure
This love, so strong pursued
A tame heart’s strict censure
Where all angels fear intrude
And so with love, is impression’s impart
Love all you might, with a richest of heart

I like the way you compare love to those different things. It certainly builds up a panoramic picture.
