Greed, are you the fingers of avarice Swollen digits of material grasp Do you amass power from greed’s practice That power comes within the greedy clasp
What good is the over-size, the amount Glut which gives advertising quality A scoring, to measure by finger’s count Collected through uncaring industry
What gloating eyes see only treasure’s chest Yet blind to those who suffer, skin and bone Are to unhappy cries, the poor oppressed While the bloated sit on a Midas throne
Plunder what you will while on earth below But you can’t take it with you when you go
Those who are obsessed with outdoing the Joneses are seldom counted among the truly happy and satisfied. The constant chase for the gold can be wearisome and speed the race to the grave. So much sage truth in your words Ron. Your friend in words, Pete
My grandfather used to say he had never seen a hearse with an armored car following it...nope, you can't take it with you! Those who are blind to the needs of others are the one I pity. Midas' throne is not a place of honor if you ask me. A well written poem with a good life lesson in between the lines. Lydi**

I must say that your Grandfather's word made me smile and I guess he was certainly right about that. Mind you, I have also witnessed greed over a Will. It's such a shame. Glad to say, I have never been materialistic. my elder sibling always used to say that, in this world there are the 'Givers' and the 'Takers' and you, you poor fool are a 'Giver'. Needless to say, my brother was a taker!:)

Takes all kinds, that much is true! I have witnessed greed over a will myself....and it is ugly.
Yes this is a beautifully constructed poem. Like you I am concerned about those who sit on Midas throne while 'blind to those who suffer, skin and bone.'

You construct this piece about greed and in the end; you give us the reality of it all:
Plunder what you will while on earth below
But you can’t take it with you when you go
