Enters, E.H. Monroe

Enters, E.H. Monroe

A Poem by Poetic Beauty
"

an ode to my dear friend Monroesters. E.H. Monroe for those who don't know is a resident writer on here. He writes satire with genius metaphors. Check out his work sometime when you have a chance.

"

He staggered into town

Spewing sulfuric fire

Drenched in

 seedy sweat

From pornographic

 pleasures

Dark hair tangled around

His disfigured face

As a squall started brewing

Almost knocking him

Off his feet

Ominous air raid sirens

Began screaming

Their shrill warning

“Get inside

Lock your doors

Hope you make it

‘Til Morning”

A seven-eleven coffee cup

Firmly gripped

In his grimy hand

Jack and coke

His favorite bed partner

Well that

And his beloved hand

He spit

And sputtered

Into the night

About his Crapolyptic

View

I stared in disbelief

Dumbfounded

Frozen in place

My legs wouldn’t

Move

He turned, staring

Straight at me

With a wicked gleam

In his one good

Eye

He raised cup

High toward the sky

“Cheers to you my friend”

Then he went to take

A sip

His eyes wide

With surprise

He threw

The empty glass

At me

I dodged the

Spiraling object

And then laughed

When he fell

Right on his

Drunken a*s

Not knowing E.H. Monroe's work, I can't say whether or not you did him justice here, but the words certainly do justice to the page they sit upon. This is a really entertaining vignette of a colourfully portrayed character who -although savagely drawn at times, and with a dirty, seedy atmosphere surrounding his world- is lent sympathy and fascination by the writing he inspires.

hahahaaa, yeah, he's like that.
I'm not familiar with his work but if he's this biting and sarcastic I'm sure I'll enjoy him as I did your poetry., really gives a tangy flavor to what hes's all about. He has to love this one, it like molten lava.

Sounds good. I am always playing catch up.
The subtle humors are respectable. I don't know E.H. Monroe's work or, necessarily, who he is to be able to say that you did good by him. But this flow and imagery of this poem was definitely good. I enjoyed this little story. -Ian

I like drunk and mean people in the street. Always good for a story if you share some gin. I enjoyed the tale. made me smile tonight. Thank you for the outstanding poem.
