Stag in the Moonlight

Stag in the Moonlight

A Poem by Poetic Beauty

Moonlight shines on an open pasture

A graceful stag gallops with freedom

Showing off his beauty and power

His pelt the color of whole wheat flour

Lowering to his goddess in white

Bowing before with submissive respect

In awe of his fair maiden of the hunt

Showing adoration with a soft grunt

With a Quiver of arrows on her back

Long flowing hair swirls in the breeze

She bends gently stroking his soft hide

Emotions sing as their thoughts collide

Beguiling Artemis of the night

Showers her pet with loving care

As loneliness plagues her inside

Only in animals can she confide

When the gods mingle it is never good

For destruction comes with immortal power

So with stubbornness she remains alone

Her love for a man will never be shown.

There you go again, Poetic Beauty...capturing me in your web of words..
wonderful, vividly descriptive and terrific us of rhyme (without getting in the way of the flow of the poem)
Loved the last stanza...actually the last two..says a lot about loneliness and stubbornness and how one often leads to the other...
I really liked it, PB

Nicely done... the encounter of the goddess and the stag had a thrilling feel to it - 'stroking his soft hide' as well as a poignancy that her love could not be consummated.. Artemis is an intriguing character

I must say I find it almost "Tudor" in the poems execusion, however it feels Robin Hood and Maid Marrion to the texture of the words, a wildly perfect poem, well done
