Infected Grapevine

Infected Grapevine

A Poem by Poetic Beauty
"

not about grapes

"

It springs to life climbing and reaching

Toward the illuminating sun

As healthy new growth has begun

Emerald green leaves open wide

Spanning across the brown of the vine

A sea of leafy green so divine

Violet balls begin to take form

Taking on their spherical shape

Majestic bunches blossoms create

As words are twisted and turned

The leaves shrink changing to red

As gossip is continuously fed

They shrivel crumpling falling apart

Rotten sour fruit plummets to the ground

With each evil vile breathy sound

Infected rumors continue to spread

Till the whole vine is gnarled, broken

Repercussions of gossip spoken

love the metaphorical use of the leaves changing throughout the season and the red ones representing the rumours being spread. Very thought provoking, makes you want to really think before you speak out and take a step back before you start making assumptions. I also love the description of the vine being gnarled and broken, really nice use of imagery to set the scene. Ella

A nicely charged metaphor, this takes on the journey through the damage done by voyeuristic, hurtful gossip. I liked this, but I wonder if the theme is a little too heavy handed? If it would be just atad stronger if you didn't exactly tell the reader what this was about, but let them draw that conclusion themsleves?

Ah yes! Exactly what vile gossip does. It destroys, sours and ruins so much in life. Penned awesomely well!

Amazing how gossip and rumors can shrivel life long friendship and some families just like a grapevine withers and dies. Great writing Poetic!

and of course the wine becomes vinegar... Runors are the most insidious things and are almost impossible to stop or refute. They are indeed like an infection or sickness that maybe even needs amputation... Nice poem

.
clever how the poem seems to start out seeing the vine in a literal term and blends into a metaphorical take on the grapevine as place of gossip ..nicely done

Great poem. Gossip can infect the most fruitful vines, infecting them with the most bitter taste. Well done.

Talk is cheap~ it doesn't take much for gossip to spread like wildfire and then hit you in the face like a boomerang~ Nicey said in poetic verse!
