I Will Step Aside

I wrote this poem on September 18, 2007

Take off and gently fly away;
Like an eagle soaring in the sky.
I can't make you want to stay,
These thoughts make me start to cry.

Go and leave, do what you should.
Be where you achingly need to be,
But love me, if only you could.
Regretfully this isn't what I see.

I release onto your own path.
Maybe some day your mind will change.
Towards you I could never feel wrath,
Only confused as lives rearrange.

Soar to the place you long for;
Escape to where your heart wants to be.
It may devastate me to the core,
But if you must, spread your wings, flee.

Take this love, with you, when you go;
For life will be mournfully dim.
Sorry my emotions are so,
But without you life is dark and grim.

Leave me standing alone, right here;
Watching you gliding, flying away.
This is my nightmare, my worst fear,
But no crying, I won't make you stay.

No blocking or standing in your way;
If home is what you needfully crave.
Keeping you, a game, I'd never play;
Even when, to my heart, it feels grave.

Choose the direction, follow your heart.
In the path that it does needfully lead.
I should have built walls from the start
Now without protection, my heart pleads.

Yelling, begging you not to leave,
But needing you to want to stay here.
No outward sign, but inside I grieve.
For my heart's solace needs you near.

No matter what, I won't ask you to,
Change your decision in your mind.
That isn't fair, of me to ask of you,
But forever to my heart, you did bind.

Silently, I will step aside,
As you gracefully soar skyward away.
My devastation I will quietly hide,
As you peacefully part leaving disarray.

This poem has been changed from it's original form to make it a deep more heart felt poem. Give honest opinions for this is an older poem I have reworked.

This is very well crafted!! I feel it strongly as it flows...Yes letting one leave is very hard,But it does help us to grow and teaches us a lesson..We can NEVER make one stay and Love us,and if we try ,it will eat away at our souls! Very good piece! :)
