Dragon’s Lair

Dragon’s Lair

A Poem by Poetic Beauty

There is a fierce slumbering dragon
His obsidian scales sleek as glass
Ornate details with intricate etching
Trimmed in pure silver moonlight
That shines iridescently in the void

Beneath the molten onyx volcano
He resides in quiet solitude
Of vast darkness and nocturnal shine
As Luna penetrates a small hole
Shimmering upon his massive body

His giant tail concealing a secret
Wrapped protectively inside the circle
A tiny female human lays asleep
His armored plates radiating warmth
Surrounding her relaxed being

She’s his light amongst the starless sky
A beacon, exuding purple kinship
Comforting the stillness that impedes
As the beast awaits the sandman’s visit
Half awake and partially unconscious

A guardian of those he deems worthy
Viciously protective of what is his
Dominance emanates from his veins
Saturating the circulating air
So unexpected intruders beware

Wonderful word choice, description and alliteration. Love the story told here. I have always found dragons scary. A protective one though, has got to be a bonus. Another fine write PB. I can tell the effort that has gone into composing these stanzas.

This seems to be more of a gentle dragon who protects, his warmth shrouds her …he is more of a guardian than someone to fear…..but don’t be an intruder in his domain…because he picks and chooses.. ….beautiful piece with vivid images and an interesting subject….

Very nicely done...
Actually, I'm quite inclined toward Dragons in general and think that over the ages, because of the total lack of any effective breath mints, they got an unfairly bad rap.
Altho,' seems to me I recently saw a dragon related film where things eventually worked out fine, but admittedly, in the days of yore, those dragons were kept awfully busy fighting heroic knights of the realm.
This is relevant subject matter because there are currently more than just a few A-hole dictator types that could easily fill the role
Just in case, keep a can of Bear spray handy and enjoy a pleasant evening....))

Aww, I love dragons! I have all the "Dragon Heart" series on DVD and my daughter has a stuffed dragon she sleeps with named Dazzle. His full title is "Sir Dazzle the Dream Dragon" He scares away bad dreams with his huge sparkling wings; the Good Knight of the good night, so to speak. I enjoyed your dragon tale. F.

Thank you kindly
Well this is far more prosaic than my memories involving dragons were, but then again I suppose not everyone's first knowledge of dragons were from an old treasure Mao my dad somehow had a feeling of where to find it without telling us he was a wannabe Indiana Jones and our astonishment at finding such an ancient treasure map, that was definitely not aged by burning bits off the edges and rubbing it in old tea bags, with things like X MARKS THE SPOT, THAR BE BEASTIES HERE! and BEWARE THE DRAGONS written on it!
I remember my nieces faces when we done that to them and they made a great job of digging up the vegetable patch!
Ahh, those innocent childlike days! 😀
