A Chanting Heart

This quiet heart that lay beating
Beneath a solid rib cage of bone
Sings a soft rhythmic tune of love
Chanting its melody with rain

A gentle pattering deep within
Trickles with drizzling ardent notes
Echoing of feelings that reside
Hidden under the skin’s surface

A relaxed drip of emotions
As misty violin strings vibrate
Comforting the playing organ
Giving permission to sing
Its secret tune of elation

The brain keeps it locked tightly
Dwelling deep behind protective bone
Sheltered from the outside world
Where hurtful silence could shatter it

Often its closed from sounding
Slumbering without making noise
It’s stillness is from the chaos
That acknowledging it could create
Wreaking havoc in its unmasking

A love blossoming that shouldn’t be
Flowering with gliding spring rain
Dewy in its silent presences
As the brain once again locks it down

Yet it softly pulses from within
Caged from hateful scorn that sears
Fluttering with butterfly wings
Soaring only when alone at peace

Quite often it's a case of brain over heart, those deep seated desires kept in check by a dictatorial conscious, still though, love will not be denied as without a beating heart, not just the body, but the brain dies as well...
