Heart Too Soft

I’m rough on the exterior
Jagged shards protruding outward
Much like a small porcupine
Prickly spikes poking, my power

Deep within my interior
Docile fluff vibrating resides
Like a soft tiny rabbit
Downy fur shining, does hide

Too soft for this brutality
Thumping heart quivering, quietly
A drum that’s beating slowly
Roaring with fever, in private

My mind rushes overthinking
Racing in overdrive, fastly
A small bee bustling, frisky
Churning with vigor, quite madly

Love to soft, an emotion
Singing it Melodie’s, sweetly
A song sung smoothly, with care
Flying with flavor, so deeply

There’s a price for adoration
Fondness isn’t constantly, fluid
A flow stops moving, and quite
Feelings do become, diluted

Too soft for this brutality
Thumping heart quivering, quiet
A drum that’s beating, slowly
Roaring with fever, in private

This was powerful and honest. We build emotional walls to keep others out never realizing we will be trapped inside our self-made prison. But I've said this before and I'll continue to say it, of all the beautiful and wonderful creations in our world, none has yet to surpass the tender heart. Shakespeare asked in his Hamlet soliloquy whether is was more noble to suffer or fight. Walls make it possible to do neither when we shut others out. This was a good read. You always make me think with your writes. I enjoyed.

Emotions change so quickly..... from docile to ecstatic... heart thumping.... one can be rough or tough on the outside, but inside one can be soft, warm, smooth... but then inner emotions can rise to amazing heights, thumping, tapping like a drum....."roaring with fever in private".....Very nicely written PB

I like the rhythm and flow of this poem. The images fall over each other in a rush of emotion, with soft and hard competing for attention - but soft definitely triumphing. Many people put up a brave face to defend their feelings... while the pain and vulnerability churn within. It's hard trying to be strong while feeling weak, to smile at the world while weeping in the closet.

i think of a baby rabbit ( i used to breed them) and their little hearts thump , sweet, soft little creatures.
