The Phoenix

Written 4-14-2021

Within the secret garden
A Phoenix lives contently
Spreading her fiery wings
Raising the body’s temperature
Invoking the heart to sing

She’s nested between the ribs
Quietly curled up sleeping
Scarlet feathers wrap around bones
Entwining a vibrating love
Constantly where the mind roams

Refusing to be silent
Blazing a colorful display
Hues of violet and red glow
Reflecting in the aura’s light
Parading love in a grand show

Always rising from the ashes
When thoughts surface of defeat
Viciously she will battle
For she’s fiercely eternal
Her existence won’t rattle

Soaring high with flaming breath
Devouring all inward doubt
Freely igniting this desire
Fueling pure untouched hope
For she never faulted or tires

The phoenix is strong, durable, lasting inspiring....and will ever be there for you. She exists within you and inspires passion and most of all, hope. I love the phrase: "she's nested between the ribs" She is never quiet.

As with most, I've had periods of deep despair & feeling conquered. I've always been fascinated at my natural tendency to keep pulling myself out of whatever hole I'm in, then I manage to climb up to some high point where I didn't think I'd ever be going again. I believe this natural phoenix lives within most of us & it's waiting for the clamor to die down so it can rise & fly again. Your poem shows us this in a way that makes us really FEEL it! If you can run a half marathon well you can run a full marathon. After a certain point it's all in your head. Your body can do it, it's just a matter of how much pain you're willing to deal with. Whenever I cross a certain physical threshold I feel something like a phoenix rise out of me. A drive that just wants to keep pushing in that moment; something that forgets about long term goals and goes all in on whatever is in the moment. It makes me run further, push harder. Those types of runs always tear away at the body, no one is more healthy after a marathon. There was a point I was trying to make, this all did have something to do with your poem at one point, I swear it did.

we can rise from the ashes after a burnt relationship...we can rise from the ashes as a nation since all sense of empathy, peace and love have become tinder for the fire.
Burn Baby Burn Disco Inferno...
and yet from that garden.
Hope may rise again...
and from that fallen relationship...the heart may also rise again.

I like that others take away different aspects of the poem. I simply wanted you to know what the Phoenix represented because this is a really personal poem. Something I have struggled with for years and learned to embrace it and accept for what it is. When I do I feel more balanced even though him and I aren’t together
