Sometimes you hate what you can see coming

She is slowly destroying you
Quietly taking you apart
One minuscule shard at a time
Silently robbing you of air

She is leaving you empty
Giving you a false sense of hope
A single fragment of sunlight
Dimming as the days trickle on

She keeps you clinging to shadows
Letting you grasp at nothing
An illusion of a phantom love
That evaporated long ago

She is receding from your touch
Pulling back with a gentle force
A movement you barely notice
Until her love is out of reach

She is creating chaos within you
Come rest beside me peacefully
I will surround you with warmth
Allowing you to find comfort

Relax your disarrayed mind
I will embrace you tightly
Holding you until sleep comes
Giving you a safe harbor

Let your thoughts become quiet
As slumber settles over you
We will surrender to calm
Locking out the stress of the day

Dear Poppy this is the same person I have been writing about for 13 years now. You know this whole complicated tale and I hate that he is hurting. One of these days I’m going to make that trip to actually visit him. I’ve been saving and told him sometimes this year. I’m determined to get there.

His baby was born too early and didn’t make it a little over a year ago so it’s been quite a tricky time for him.

We have talked many hour and many text. He has good day and somber ones. I think he’s just afraid to let go of her because of the traumatic life event. I’m pretty much the only one he will talk in detail about how he feels and what is going on in a deeper level and you know, he is the one person I will always be there for. I know that he is/was my soulmate. We keep reconnecting over and over again. It truly hurts my heart that he is in pain

A true soul mate is one who always stand by his/her partner, more so when he is in dire need. May be he is unconscious of the looming danger but a loving heart can see it and also the resulting fall. It's this specific time when a gentle caring embrace can save him from his fall and comfort him, that he needed badly. I appreciate this kind of love.... You portrayed it finely

This is one of the best poems I've read in 2021! I am all in! You have depicted the insidious lover so well, so recognizable, could be male or female . . . we all squirm as we feel the chagrin, remembering when we were taken in by such cheap, shallow, counterfeit affection. I had this happen to me at the cafe last year & then I watched this scourge continue on to transfix & mystify others. My friend is going through this. They have take a couple breaks and almost broke up a few times and then she didn’t want to spend Christmas with him. Now she wants to spend time with him again. And then it will be back to the distance again. It’s been going on for over a year. I don’t think she is a horrible person. They had a tragic event happen. That it’s over but neither want to admit they don’t know how to be together.

I don’t think his girlfriend is a bad person I think they she just doesn’t want or know how to be with him anymore and needs to let him go instead of all this back and forth.
