Etched on the Heart

Etched on the Heart

A Poem by Poetic Beauty

Beneath this fleshy outer layer
Underneath sinew and bone
Lays a muscle that beats relentlessly
Thumping a perfect rhythm
Life sustaining beat
Of immaculate song

Look beyond the biology
Gaze past the rib cage
Deeper still inspect the pericardium
With a microscope

Etched hidden, immersed
Submerged in the physiology
Are words scripted, engraved
On the outside layer of this
Delicately strong organ

Some souls transcribe
Infusing their ink
Sketching their names on the heart
Illuminating letters on their soul

Wow this is so deep and mesmerizing and raw and pure. I could actually see that very heart, as it beat, giving life to the body it beholds, and the scars and words embezzled on the muscle of that heart as well.
Imagery was amazing, and your writing seems very professional in terms of anatomy and such. I felt as if I was the Doctor operating within a patients body to seek this heart out. Superb Writing, Great Job

I’m glad you liked this poem
It is a remarkable organ in its ability to record vast swings of emotion and through it all, carry on with the basic job of maintaining blood circulation
Apparently this is an organ that can be transplanted and I have always wondered if the new heart brings new feelings along with it

Wonderful use of words and thoughts dear friend.
"Look beyond the biology

The above lines. Perfect and true. We must open our eyes to see the real person and the real truth. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

I did. A wonderful poem my friend.
I really liked how you transposed the coldness of the medical body to the discovery and warmth of the existential heart and the underlying soul we call humanity. You did it it in a smooth, transitional way and made me see the light... or more specifically "a" light. Way to go PB, a spot-on write.

This refresher in physiology was most useful but more to the point you make the statement in this interesting write that some people leave their indelible mark on us and it is writ deep.

I figured you can’t see the inside if you don’t first look at the outside. Thank you for reading.. read more
Seems we should never overlook what's been left upon or within The Heart. Need notice how marks have been left - as if initials carved into the bark of a tree. Poetry contrives to turn the vessel into a mighty treasure CHEST - in many ways it is. Except that not only might it illuminate but can be broken into and robbed!

Thank you for reading this poem and I’m glad you liked it.
I like this poem. I like the way you begin on the 'physical' level, descriptive, and end on the 'esoteric' level, with 'soul'. Our bodies are amazing things, aren't they? And I am sure all our little cells and things, chat away to each other!!
