Mother Willow Tree

Mother Willow Tree

A Poem by Poetic Beauty
"

My mother is much like this tree

"

Come lay your melancholy head

Beneath my draping branches

Let the teardrops fall with abandon

As I wrap these willowed fingers

Around your convulsing body

Let the salty droplets

Fall like nature’s rain

Hidden completely

From the world’s prying eyes

Rest your breast

Upon the mossy ground

As tear stains are absorbed

Into the healing dirt below

Soothing the aching soul

My roots shall drink

In your unwanted salty tears

Swallowing up the unwanted misery

Your essence of sorrow

Spreads sodium reminders

To the lefty greens

Of how solitary

Human life can unbearably seem

Hush now young one

I am here to ease

Your solemn mood

Sheltering from the world

That may not understand

Your need to grieve

Such a warm piece... I love the way that you personified the tree as an image of your mother, or any mother for that matter. This is a great concept. I have a place that I go to sometimes, when I'm feeling moody or disconnected, and there is a giant Oak tree there. I often lay flat beneath the tree looking up, and it is an interesting experience, much like what I would imagine being in the womb feels like. There is a dullness to the sound and yet this amazing warmth. Anyway, your imagery and intention with this one set me to thinking on my special place, as well as my wonderful mother. Nicely done.

this poem reads as if a few of the facets of nature ( the willow tree, the branches, the rain, the moisture) are in dialogue with each other, which I felt was really engaging, nice work
