Violet Smoke

for creative poetry Janis Joplin

Surrounded in a violet haze

That swirled softly

In the smoke filled room

One voice sang out

Shrouded by a kaleidoscope

Of psychedelic veils

 

A unique sounding voice

Drifts reaching each ear

Capturing their attention

Drawing each person near

 

Bobby McGee has departed

Long time been astray

Taking a little piece

If her heart with him

And One Night Stands

Become the common place

 

Fame doesn’t change

Who she is deep inside

She lives and breaths

Life on the wild side

 

Crazy hair and bellbottom pants

With her favorite bottle

Held tight in her hand

Violet smoke swirls

Above her unclear head

As she sings about life

The one she thread

Joplin like so many singers in the sixties. Lived fast and celebrated every moment. I believe they knew their time was short and they had to enjoy every moment. I like the poem. Joplin music keep her alive. No-one could sing story and sadness like the great and missed Joplin. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
