The Pain of Ghosts

The shadows you hide from
are only ghosts of paiun,
much like you or I could be.

 

One day we may be free of our
pain; we may be each others,
we may be happy.

 

But also one day, we may be dying
with our pain, separate, together, and
regardless we may lose the battle.

 

That pain could follow us, teasing
happiness with  a light behind us,
casting our future as a permanent shadow.

 

Without me to hold a lantern in
front of you, you could be that
numb, dead shadow.

 

Without you to hold that lantern in
front of me, you could be that
numb, dead shadow.

 

I will walk backwards, you in front of
me with a lantern, me in front of you
with a lantern.

 

We will both have the light
to our futures, the only shadows
will cover our pasts.
