Dawn

Dawn

A Poem by Ryan "rat" Travis
"

I wrote this a while back for a write like Jim Morrison contest. I won!

"

sunburnt natives lounging on large rock

a new dawn of man has arrived

dreams of monsters and angels

mystics searching for a new god

lightning races across the sky

it starts to rain

a rainbow

I love you

14 migrant workers

sing songs about lost love

the rain pounds the tin roof

making rhythm with their drops

the bar is filled with camaraderie

spirits lifted when imbibed

    I haven’t had a drink yet

where were you

when the new dawn was awakened

Now, this is poetry. Love the reference to the migrant workers...my parents have a radio interview taped of Jim speaking about this incidence and his belief of what happened. I also love the spiritual nature of this. Well done...I swear you channeled his spirit for the first stanza.*smile*

This Is a very Morrison-esque poem... You stand a pretty good chance with this...
