LOVE FOR SALE

LOVE FOR SALE

A Poem by Teresa Bridges

Love for Sale

You say that love can be bought and sold

That it is something you can pick up and hold

That it is the thing that gives you fame and power,

But can it soothe you in your darkest hour?

Can it dry your tears?

Soothe your fears?

Hold you in their embrace?

Wipe the sweat and tears from your face?

Can it sit in the dark?

And listen to what’s in your heart?

Can it ease your pain,

By the gentle touch of a hand?

Can it tell you again and again

That pure love cannot be bought like merchandise?

That all you have to do is look into a loved one’s eyes

And see love for you reflected back.

Tell me again how money can do that!
