SECOND ACTA Story by poetdougSince this is National Senior Citizens Month, I share this article I wrote for LEADERSHIP MAGAZINE, published Aug. 2014 by Douglas Raymond Rose
Diana Nyad at age 64 recently became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida. colonel Harlan Sanders founded Kentucky Fried Chicken chain at the prime age of 66. Benjamin Franklin was age 70 and the oldest signer of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
The current world record holder for oldest person to finish the Iron-man Triathlon is 82-year old Sister Madonna Buder. Many of the elders of our world manage to begin their SECOND ACT of their lives as they enjoy longevity. Most of us will never have to worry a out living as long as Methuselah (969 years-old). But, whatever our age, God has work for us to do. Just ask Adam and Eve, Joshua, Moses, Isaac, Job Jacob and even Abraham and Sarah. As for myself, I've become a freelance writer for Christian magazines since entering retirement. I've drawn some great motivation from the life of colorful Irishman Frank McCourt who, at age 66 wrote the New York best selling Book---ANGELA'S ASHES. God gives us talents to match up with our opportunities. today is an excellent time to analyze yours. Often we have opportunities that are new, that are very exciting. With God's help, we can be the one He uses--no matter what our age. Blind songwriter Fanny Crosby died at age 95, but not until after writing over 8,000 poems set to music including 'Blessed Assurance." Let's not miss out on our 'SECOND ACT. It could turn out to be our best!t!
