CELEBRATE THE SOIL

CELEBRATE THE SOIL

A Poem by poetdoug
"

(Based on Charles Warner's story: "My SUMMER IN A GARDEN" written over 100 years ago.

"
Let us Celebrate the Soil
 God made so much of it
   In fact He regarded it so dearly
      He formed Adam and Eve of it
            Formed Adam and Eve of it

Let's cultivate the love of delightful dirt
 (Why not---all rich landowners do)
   Blessed agriculture--digging in ground
      Seems to come back home to you.
              Come back home to you.

Most men toil that they may own
 An acre or two of their own dirt;
  A bit of ground to call his own
   (And a tree or two won't hurt)
          A tree or two won't hurt.

We who plant a Spring Garden
 Feel we have done something good;
  Helped make the world a better place
   When on Terra Firma we have stood.
          On Terra firma we've stood.

No matter how ancient our own age
 Chocolate mud pies satisfy the soul;
So let's Celebrate the Soil today
 Before from earth we eternally go.
           From earth we eternally go.

You have just stirred the farmer and a gardener in me. Remember the magic it does to the lifeless seeds making them fruit and flower bearing plants and trees. It's nothing less than magic. The warmth of soil upon skin has too a special feeling which our words may not explain but can be only felt.
Simply loved it .

Very good. Extremely well written.

Just giving you a hard time here: Only Adam was made from dirt, Eve was made from Adam's rib.

I considered that, but then there was alot more to her than one rib!

Yes! And Adam's rib was made from dirt, so by the transitive property, Eve was also made from dirt!

Right. From Dust awe come tao dust we go. Thanks my friend
Yes we should celebrate the land that grows the foods that feed us…. unfortunately people have gotten in the habit of taking it for granted, just like they do their relationships. But I do love the sentiment you expressed here.

Thank you for bringing up this important topic in your artwork
we need to celebrate it...as kids we play in it...as adults we use it to grow things...and grow closer to spirituality celebrating what god has given us...but then when we die, we go back to it...

soil is our constant companion throughout life...and if it were a person we would respect it...so let's just personify it, and show it some celebratory love.
