A Virgin fell asleep

   Sleeping, Sleeping

Soon began the divine

   Dreaming, Dreaming

Said the angel quite aloud

"Of you God is very proud"

And with head lowly bowed

She did listen closely, closely.

"You shall conceive a child

   O Virgin Mary, Mary

The Son of the most Hight

   Virgin Mary, Mary

This Baby Boy you shall carry

   O Virgin Mary, Mary

Mary's answer still echoes

Behold Lord, Behold

Be it unto me O Lord

According to thy holy word

Soon the Child was born in Bethlehem

   Bethlehem, Bethlehem,

   Judean Hills beamed brightly that night

   Angels singing Allelujah, Allelujah

"Twas an awesome Heaven-sent sight.

Now the Christ-Child lay

   Sleeping, Sleeping

His Mother Mary is sweetly

    Singing, Singing

All His father's promises He is

   Keeping, Keeping

His name is called Wonderful Counselor

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

What began in Bethlehem has never ended

   Christ will soon return to earth again!

       Amen and Amen

I was mesmerized by the wonderful rhymes and song like pattern of the piece.
This piece may be very attractive to little children who may be compared with angels.
Moms and babysitters may sing this work as lullaby to the children to bring sleep to them.
