LITTLE 'SUE' BLUEA Poem by poetdougThis is based on Little Boy Blue by Poet Eugene Field. It describes our daughter's fascination with "Cabbage Patch Kids Dolls" (Does anyone Remember them?) Collector even now have a page on FACEBOOK
The little Toy Doll is covered with dust
but [pink and proud she still stands; Her aging dollhouse is now all empty Craving small childhood hands. Time was when this doll was new "Cabbage Patch Kid" is her name; Once Daddy stood in line for hours And many other Daddies did the same. Everyone wanted a Cabbage Patch doll Stores were all simply selling out-- "Christmas won't be Christmas without her" Said our little Susie with such a pout. but now 20 Yuletides have come and gone Since Susie kissed and put the doll there; "Now you stay here till I come back again And don't dare to go off anywhere." So the dear faithful doll still awaits There in the same old sacred place; Awaiting the touch of our Susie's hand With a thin grin in her dimpled face. And she wonders, while waiting these years In the dust of that little blue chair--- What ever became of dear little Susie Since she kissed her and put here there? 2013 by DRR
