LIKE A (FOOLISH) VIRGIN

LIKE A (FOOLISH) VIRGIN

A Poem by poetdoug
"

This is based on Matthew 25:10:"And while they went to buy, the Bridegroom came and those who were ready went in with him to the Wedding; and the door was shut. -----Afterward the other Virgins came "

"
Shut
The Door is shut
It's much too late now
No window of opportunity remains open
---All should have been done beforehand
Foolish
Foolish Virgins
Locked out as the Wedding ceremony begins
---The door is now slammed shut.

Tomorrow
We will prepare
tomorrow we shall do our duty
But now "manana" has come
---And all is still left undone
Our burning oil has gone out
We are locked out by Life--- unprepared
Late and left standing on the doorstep
---Like Foolish Virgins
----Knock---Knock---Knocking!

Author's Note

poetdoug
This passage is meant to be reminded that we need not be 'shut out' of our goals
We must carefully prepare for them---and not be left standing on life's doorstep
Hope looks ahead to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Ah, the Bible as inspiration! Interesting (to say the least). This is a great poem reflecting the passage and its message. I especially like the ending, the repetition of "knock, knock, knocking." That effect is excellent. Great poem!

The Seven P's - Proper, Prior, Planning, Prevents, Piss, Poor, Performance...is that what you wanted to convey here...I liked the verse and the way you let this one go...manana...see you tomorrow...I'm a day ahead here in the Philippines...

Thank Cody my friend. Appreciate your words
and this gets its point across well...if we don't prepare, we will be standing on the threshold, locked out of our dreams...

we need to get our feet wet, go for it...plan for it..and just do it.

nice analogy in this.
