Dear Matthew

Dear Matthew

A Poem by Madeleine Celeste
"

The letter I never intend to address or send. A love letter, in a sense. With no formal ending. This starts small and ends infinite.

"
Dear Matthew,
I found a place I think you'd like
It's in my neighborhood
At the end of Midland Avenue
There's a long path
That leads to a set of boulders
But there's a hidden trail on the left
That winds under a canopy of pines
It's especially magical when there's sparkling flakes of snow caught on the needles
Where it looks like the whole sky is above you
And then you walk a bit further and and there really is sky
So much of it
And there's a little knoll
Where somebody left two Adirondack chairs buried in the snow
And it looks out over the neighborhood and you can see all of the houses and the mountains
But if you look a little higher there's the sky
And you're a little closer to all of it, on the Adirondack chairs
Closer to nature
Closer to quiet
Closer to the hushed, cold sky
And I want to bring you there
Please don't bother asking why
But I just know it's something you would appreciate
And most of all, I want to bring you there at night
When the world is the stillest it can be
And the sky is bright with millions of stars
And we wouldn't even have to talk
We could just sit in silence and marvel at how hidden we are to the rest of the world
Barely thinking
Barely moving
Only existing
And I am barely breathing
Just looking at you
You, under the stars in this perfect place
You, existing in a way that reminds me of here
A hidden, beautiful miracle
That is almost like a secret and exactly like magic
Bright in the still, silent evening
And why I want to bring you here the most
Is to let you have this secret, perfect, silent place with me
To give you a miracle to share
And to only briefly punctuate the silence with words like you and this place
The words that are
Illuminated, this place and you, underneath the stars
Vast, the sky and you, so full and ever changing
Miraculous, you and this night, like such a wonder was just able to be
Glittering, the snow and you, your eyes reflecting starlight and the light inside you
Hushed, this evening and you, both perfectly calm and content here
Infinite, the world and you, almost overflowing with goodness and depth and everything
Insignificant, this place and you, and I, all so small in comparison to all the undiscovered things out there
Secret, this place and you, and all of us hidden by pines and cloudy evening
These words come forth in the night and like the night
I have illuminated, vast, miraculous, glittering
Hushed, infinite, insignificant, secret things to say
A simple thing to say that are all of these things, that is everything.
I love you.

Oh my goodness this was amazing! I could imagine the place you were writing about and how peaceful and calm it would be. This was such a nice and sweet poem.
