When it Lingers

I love goodbye kisses 

in the morning;

scent of your cologne

lingering in the air,

brushed against my cheek

so I can miss you more.

I don't need pretty words

to know I hold your heart,

but you whisper them anyway

just to see me sigh.

Wow!! The simplicity in this piece is so beautiful! I love how you use multi-sensory imagery here....tactile, visual, auditory and best of all...olfactory.

The scent, the whispers, the "pretty words" are all lingering through the day...

They are all such powerful images.

it is an irony isn't ..it?
we want that last kiss, that last touch, that last memory to bring with us to our day, so we can miss more, not less.

Yes they are :). I wrote that part and kind of a joke. The guy on AP who was hosting the contest said "Don't give me pretty, flowery words" LOL so I put that in there hehe but he ended up loving the poem and gave me gold in the contest. Simple ones sometimes turn out to be the favorites of others.
