Take Up the Charge

Take Up the Charge

A Poem by PoemsbyPatrick

Don't speak to me of what has been,
Or things that you have done,
These are the lessons of the past,
Of last year's battles won.

Speak instead of what can be,
The future possibility,
The future promise of the world,
The prospect of the deed undone.

Look not onto the path gone by,
Nor laurels granted there,
Blaze anew the heart's new trail,
And overcome the spirit's cares.

New windmills will present themselves,
Upon the far off hills,
The dragons not just in your mind,
Do challenge so your will.

Take up the charge,
Stand straight and tall,
The world will honor,
Your battle call.

Don't speak to me of what has been,
Or things that you have done,
These are the lessons of the past,
There are yet battles to be won.
