Is it love, or the thought of loving you?

We all wonder if our love is true, or something else.

How do I know my love is true?

Is it love, or the thought of loving you?

Your feelings toward me draw me to you.

It is love, or the thought of you loving me?

 

If it were but the thought of loving you,

Then I would not find joy in our debates.

If it were only the thought of you loving me,

I would not ache to fill your sorrows.

If my love was just the love of loving you,

Then I would not hold so high your desire to live your life your way.

If my love for you were not true,

Then I would not be willing to set you free.

 

I find joy in our debates.

I ache to fill your sorrows.

I hold most high your desire to live your life your way.

If it made you happy I would gladly set you free.

i think the line "if my love for you were not true, then i would not be willing to set you free" speaks the whole of the meaning in this write, but the entire poem is absolutely sincere and shows total devotion to a real and beautiful love, kudos!
