Sun and Moon

Sun and Moon

A Poem by PoemsbyPatrick

The sun in all his fiery brilliance,
Rises with the day.
He rules the waking hours,
In most, but not all ways.

The moon in her glow,
Captivates the night.
Her shifting silhouette,
Waxing and waning through her flight.

The moon appears in daylight too,
To taunt her lover sun.
Her mystery does tease him so,
His solemness undone.

The sun shall never rule the night,
Or enter in its space.
The moon does not invite him there,
To shine upon her face.

Their love is seldom consummate,
But when in fullness due,
The moon consumes the sun's fierce blaze,
And darkens out his hue.

The sun is proud and steadfast,
In his manly power,
But 'tis the moon's soft orb and form,
That dominates the hours.

Wow. Beautifully sculpted. I love the personification. Great job. I'm shelving it! :D

A beautiful poem about the moon and the sun. Many good myths about the dance of the moon and the sun. Most times a sad tale. Hard for the moon and sun to stand together. A eclipse allowed the moon to control the sun for a moment. No weakness in the outstanding poetry.

I have always really enjoyed the personification of the son and the moon. It tends to feel like a timeless thing to do.

You gave an interesting take on the genders here. I tend to agree with you. No matter what, the woman tends to have power that is not initially evident. She is smaller, weaker, throughout history, her roles are different... but there was alway power held by the woman and that is something that history books have rewritten.

I like this poem I fell into completely. I have no critique to offer.

Classic, timeless, beautiful! You've captured the ying and yang of gender, mythology of the skies, cyclical rythms and shared an enticingly beautiful and sensuous poem. Thank you for sharing!
