Sit in the Morning Dark

Sit in the Morning Dark

A Poem by PoemsbyPatrick

I sit in the morning dark,
This is my time and mine alone.
The world does not call me yet,
To stray away from home.

A time to sit and sip my tea,
To think through mortal things.
Without the pressure yet of day,
My many thoughts take wing.

The tasks I must accomplish,
At first they come to me.
The swirling of my consciousness,
A vast and raging sea.

These thoughts I push out from my mind,
And calm that portion of my soul.
I gain another part of me,
And strive to make me whole.

I next encounter crushing fears,
That always linger in the dark.
The unreasoned dread that fills the void,
And shadows out the soul's true spark.

These demons I must now engage,
And slay them for the day.
I'll battle and I wound them,
but they will never go away.

I sit in the morning dark,
And calm my swirling mind.
My tasks and fears now in control,
And what it is i find?

A calmness, comfort so sublime,
It must be purely true.
I find left in my deepest soul,
My fullest love for you.

I liked the ease of which you use metaphor in you poetry.

The image is so clear and natural. Your words make a morning ritual literally poetic.
