Would You be Happy if You KnewA Poem by PoemsbyPatrick
Would you be happy if you knew,
That I'd given up loving you? Not completely as it seems, Just a partial loss of dreams. Our plan was always clear and straight, To grow old lovingly together. Would you be happy if you knew, This dream no longer can I weather? My love for you it still abides, But more in deed and existing. Would you be happy if you knew, The passion has gone missing? Our life and family I do love, The love of father and of friend. Would you be happy if you knew, That love's longing has come to end? Your view of future paths seems clear, To grow old quietly in comfort. Would you be happy if you knew, The quiet path I'll not support? Somewhere along the way, You chose to grow old before your day. Would you be happy if you knew, I'll not grow old this quiet way? My love for you it still abounds, Just not in love with you I've found. Would you be happy if you knew, Your quiet future can still be you? Perhaps not with my lover's kiss, But with my friendship and my blessing. Would you be happy if you knew, A life better without me pressing? Those things that I want and need, Are not your life's priority. Would you be happy if you knew, From this existence you could be free? I love you, for me you do not yearn, You love me, for you I do not want. Would you be happy if you knew, We follow on this different slant? How do we preserve the love we have, Our family and sweet memories? While freeing each other to pursue, Our life's next chapter, fresh and new?
