Perhaps Someday

Perhaps Someday

A Poem by Pam Nyburg

My eyes drift closed

Lost in a dream

Of another time

Another place

Thoughts of another

Not of love

Or of lust

But of pain

Confusion

Hatred

My fists clench

Unbidden and unnoticed

Lost as I am

In dreams

Or are they memories

Memories

Tears fall

And soak my pillow

They are born of panic

And fear

My pleas echo in my head

Yet fell on deaf ears

As hands grab my wrists

My heart pounds

Pleas become screams

Yet die

Never released

My eyes fly open

Caught between

Then and now

But slowly they focus

The love in your eyes

Takes hold of my mind

Leading me back

To life without fear

Your fingers brush

My hair from my face

Gently telling me

I’m safe

Perhaps someday

I’ll understand fully

What that means
