Momentum

Momentum

A Poem by Tyler James Mathieson
"

Once started, it cannot stop

"

I see it lain out before me,

All the twists and turns of this life.

How one move leads to another,

Consequences sharp as a knife.

If I start down this path there’s no stopping;

It’s all downhill don’t you see?

All I have is this broken man,

All that I can offer is me.

What if it’s just not enough?

What if you simply need more?

Once spoken the words are permanent,

It’s like they're spilled all over the floor.

It’s this chance, you see, that I must take.

If I didn’t I’d always regret.

This moment that fills me with fear,

And bathes me in a cold sweat.

But I cannot see me without you.

This is as much as I know;

So if I do not move right now,

My life will be filled up with woe.

So I clear my throat and I part my lips,

There is something I simply must say.

There is no time to waste, I must speak,

Because all that we’re given is today.

The chain of events has been started.

There is nothing more that I can do.

I might have just ended my chances.

Or I just might end up with you.

I really enjoyed this. I think the repetition really strengthens it. it doesn't feel too wordy, but instead just sticks to the more punchy, powerful lines.
