A Wonderful Feeling

A Wonderful Feeling

A Poem by yourhaircutman

To belong is one of the most wanted

and desired feelings that humans long

to obtain. To be surrounded by a group

of people and to feel like you're the

perfect last piece to their complex

puzzle is a wonderful feeling.

You sit with them, listening to

them talk, how one of them mildly

curves the ending of his sentences and

how the other seems to munch on his

words, as if his jaw weren't tightened

all of the way.

You listen to the stories from the past,

the ones where you were somewhere else,

with other people, or maybe alone,

somewhere that wasn't here.

You try to connect the stories of their past,

trying to make a chronological time line

for yourself. You want to imagine what they

were like back then and how they've changed

since. This time line that helps you know

them more. It makes you feel closer to them.

You notice the joy and genuineness of their

laughter and how they just seem to love the

fact that you are sitting there with them,

even if you aren't saying much.

You feel a warmth, a family bond,

one that you've never even felt from your

actual family. You haven't known these people

that long, but it's a great feeling. It's a great

night. They're great people. Everything is just

great.

To belong, that's all I've ever wanted. To find

comfort in the company of other people, to

feel needed and cared about. I've searched

nineteen god damn years for that.

I may have finally found it.
