Erasure

I got sick of being told that people, including myself, have identities that don't exist, so I wrote a poem to express my feelings (plus the lgbtqia+ genre is called gay & lesbian on here)

It's disheartening 

To say the least

When people oppress you

To the point that 

People don't believe you exist

Despite popular belief

We are not mythical creatures

We are not confused 

We are not looking for attention

We are not more likely to carry STDs

We are not waiting for the right person to show us the way

We are not necessarily celibate

We are not cold and unfeeling

We are not just transitioning from one sexuality to another

We are simply human

No ifs, ands, nor buts

We are real

We are bisexual

We are polysexual

We are pansexual

We are omnisexual

We are asexual

We are genderqueer 

We are anyone who has ever been told

"You can't be that

Because that doesn't exist"

Let's band together

Because even if they don't believe us

We can still believe in each other

Hi Audrey!
Erasure is an important issue in the MOGAI (marginalized orientations, gender alignments, and intersex, if you don't know yet) community.
As a bi nonbinary person as well as an intersex person, erasure is very personal to me and I cannot express how damaging it has been to me. But I have hope that the community will grow stronger and begin to support our forgotten siblings as it should always have done.
This poetry, your poetry, is extremely important. Maybe a young person will come by this and feel less alone, and that'll make all the difference.
