for the boy I knew

for the boy I knew

A Poem by p.kuhl

for the boy I knew once who held grief

close to his chest in a fetal bundle

a friend found in grief,

his imaginary friend who lives to this day

in the mirror in the very real world

on the other side of silver slick

perfect reflection that boy

I knew so well

for the boy I knew once who held grief

like a flower in his dreams

perfect, delicate, the start of such turbulence

that dreams must be made of

such a sad circle

to make anything of them at all

on the other end of the bed

in a fetal bundle oh, that boy

I knew so well

for the boy I knew once who held grief

in a cloud that followed him like a shadow

above his head, above his head

oh

that boy I knew so well
