Moon GoddessA Poem by Poetic JusticeTo selene..She had an appetite for poetry Often she would devour a complete verse in one sitting She told me that she favoured vowels As they tasted sweeter But secretly she whispered W was her favourite letter I reasoned it was because it was a double U The fragrance of the alphabet followed her As if entranced by her word play She would sit amongst the prose Singing a melody as they formed freely Rhyme always liked to meet her Beneath the poet tree They would lay a picnic of sonnets and senryu She always brought the wine She said that all good poems need a little lubricant To help the flow Then she would eat until her belly ached And laugh until her sides did the same They say that the sun was named after her And that at night while all where sleeping She would light her pen and write Deep into the moonlight Dipping into the couplets and quatrains And as the sun arose upon her verse You could hear softly her dulcet tones Whispering the words carpe diem…carpe diem… © 2012 Poetic JusticeReviews
