HUMDRUM

HUMDRUM

A Poem by Poetic Justice

She held her breath in the faint hope

That she wouldn’t drown in the mediocre of her life

The rain beat against the window

To the humdrum, drum, drum of her existence

She rested her chin on her hand,

Her elbow on the window ledge,

And her heart on its laurels

She sighed so deeply

But thought so limply

Today she prayed that the hog in her head

Would stop just sniffing the ground and actually dig something up

Hoping for something

Because all she had was nothing

And something was better than nothing

She sighed once again

And for a moment life paused

Only too catch its self and play again

Play again..she smiled.

aaa yea. too close to home! the music of your words is a melody that drifts in snatches on a breeze that you can't quite hear...but the branches are swaying...and like a subtle counterpoint of a haunting piece the harmony sways the heart and soul while the mind is captivated by trying to puzzle out how the lyrics of the song are evoking such feelings...meanwhile the branches keep swaying! LOVE your writing PJ

Ah, the humdrum of life; that nagging reminder that my life is not as exciting as the next person's but not as boring either. There is indeed mediocrity, but through writing I bring excitement back into my life (is this pathetic?...). And I too can "play again / play again" and smile! Thank you for writing and sharing this poem with us!

Beautifully expressed the endless cycle of what we may ask?

we may ask? but for what I don't know! thank you..
That hum drum lingers around too long sometimes. I think there's something inside that speaks to us, a voice, that wants us to do more. The hog is in my head and whispers "move," persue," search." Nice writing and good to see you back.

I Love your sedated smiles and memories transmuted into lyric, it's comforting to know some still take their time and just let these things happen even when they can feel the tick tock of technology and duty crowding around them to actually endure and channel such thoughts into words while waiting for the approaching future. Muah to good writing, cheers.

You played out this scene splendidly, I picture that rainy day with the humdrum existence. Love the reference to the hog in her head digging up something worthwhile, enjoyed this read!
