The Wall

The Wall

A Poem by Poetic Justice
"

pride always comes before something?!?

"

She walked upon the wall

As her peers held their breaths

She knew the dangers

But her pride she wore like a shiny badge

They held their hands to hide their eyes

As she wobbled aloft their wispy heads

She giggled but grimaced inside

As her pretty slippers navigated the slippery edge

A gust of wind was all it took

To place her petticoats and all

In delightful disarray

Their laughter now echoed around her ears

And though she smiled through bitter tears

Her fall was more from grace than from any wall

How fragile is our place above others... Although the allegory is instantly recognisable and proverbial, this has been executed and delivered somehow with a new strength - as if by reading it we are re-awakened to an ancient natural law. The imagery here is mixed tragic and comic, which makes its point all the more implicit...effective and memorable.

Pride is what can get you killed or leave you lonely... nice to see you still have your spunk and creativity.
