UntitledA Story by PixiefaceJust an opener that i've had in my head for a long time.
The tiny fragments of golden light trickles down between the planks of corrugated metal sheeting.
The minuscule dust mites float gently, unaware, gracefully caressing the little girls bare arms. She pauses, and watches them for a moment, until her anger clouds her eyes with bitter tears and she harshly waves her hands through them, destroying their innocent swirling dance of ignorance. She is startled by her overwhelming feeling of jealousy, and she realises that she is envious of their freedom. She leaves the hut, shielding her eyes from the hot glare of the desert sun. Arms full of rotting sacks of stinking meat, she begins her journey back around the small mountain, and through a long path of hot, dry shrubbery and rocky terrain. She ignores the shooting pains in her tired feet by pondering on the lack of vultures and animals that you would expect to be following the scent of her small load. She would always wonder this. Could they really all be gone? If so, what does that mean for them? As another hour passes, she spies the tiny entrance through the rock, and she can smell the faint charcoal whiff, telling her that she's late and they've already got the fire going. The sun's burn is cooling slightly as it slowly lowers in the sky, leaving behind a brilliant red streak of colour in the otherwise dead brown landscape. Preparing herself for the punishing welcome she'll receive, Elijah hurries on, fearful of the darkness to come. *
