Leper Heart

"Leper Heart"

 

I fear I have a leper heart -

It falls apart so easily

When it should be both strong and hard,

Not wasted and diseased.

 

I fear I have a dread disease

A-growing in my soul -

It should be full of life and hope;

Not a hollow, empty hole.

 

I fear I have a leper heart

Atrophied inside of me -

A fitting fate, a just reward

For the person I have been.
