“Smoking After Midnight”

Smoking after midnight

The moonglow illumes the haze

Hanging from the empty spaces, Dickensian

In the protracted ghostliness

Until the breeze stirs

My exhalations,

Causing the wafting shadow tendrils

To dance lasciviously

With the flickering candlebright,

A flamenco in breath and fire

That burns on passions rather than

The twisting strands of

Wick, entwining the same

Way we used to,

When we used to drip wax and

Smolder.

If only t’were the scent of you

I was inhaling,

Smoking after mindnight

With lingering draughts that like

To coalesce

Into you face –

Dissipate,

                                      di s si p a t e… . .
