The Burdens of Bearing A Water Sign

The Burdens of Bearing A Water Sign

“The Burdens of Bearing A Water Sign”

Do not look behind you when you go

Otherwise you’ll only see what used to be

Keep your eyes affixed on the horizon –

The past, I am afraid, is quite immutable,

The ghosts that we have slain stay with us always.

Do not stare directly at the sun

Otherwise you risk losing your vision

The moon is such a better sight to gaze upon –

It even looks back on you with a full eye,

Fills the night with magic you can savor.

Do not keep your eyes closed when you dream

Otherwise they’ll fade upon the waking

Leaving you with empty aspirations –

They kindle out like slowly dying embers,

Burned brightly once but now are only ashes.

Do not pine too nightly for the sea

Otherwise you’ll always hear its ebb and tide

Whispering to you ever to come join them –

The rain is more a bitter friend to keep,

Falling from the yon in steady rhythms

This one kind of popped into my head out of left field. The title is something I reworked from a much older piece.

I am a water sign too so I think I really get what you mean by that. I like your line about rain being "a bitter friend to keep". Very interesting.

It feels like waves lapping on the shore. It's a good piece, but the emotions could be a little stronger. Well done none the less!

I really like the sense of a personal manifesto this piece has. The unique flow it takes down the page was truly an entertaining read.
